   My name is Eddie Francis and I discovered sports betting when I was 16yrs old. Sitting bored out of my mind in my writing for everyday living class my sophomore year of high school and not paying any attention to my teacher, I decide to browse through a magazine. I can't recall the exact name of the magazine, but I think it was some type of a sports magazine. While looking through the magazine I came across an advertisement for an online sportsbook. My eyes getting real big and awakened by the full sheer of excitement that was in front of me. In my mind I am completely shocked that something like this actually exists. I immediately start to think and daydream about how much money I will be making with this new discovery I just uncovered. At this point, time was moving very very slow and I'm wishing that it needs to move at least ten times faster. As soon as school was over first thing I was going to do was inform my best friend mike of this new exciting discovery of mines.

   The bell finally rings to confirm the end of school day. I grab my books of the desk and run to my locker to get the rest of my things and quickly make my way to the school bus.  Not having any patience at this time, it seemed like the bus driver was purposely driving slow just to irritate me. My bus stop being one of the very last stops was making this trip feel like eternity. My ride home that felt more like a ten hour road trip finally came to an end. I get dropped off at my stop and rush inside the house and pick up the phone to call Mike. I explain the situation at hand, I could tell by the sound of his voice that he was full of excitement. Within 15 minutes he was already over my place. We discussed about this opportunity that we now had to place wagers on our favorite sport teams and actually make money doing it. After much thought (about 30 seconds) we both agreed that we should most definitely open a sportsbook account. We started a search on Yahoo about online sports betting and found a few sportsbooks on there. Not knowing anything about any of the sportsbooks we saw, we just picked the first one that the search engine came up with. Once we navigated to the sportsbook which I can't recall the name of it being, since it was such a long time ago. Our first deposit was for $35 into the first sportsbook that the name I can't remember, and with it we placed a 3 team parlay that paid about $145 or something close to that. The parlay included the following teams, the Kansas Jayhawks, Charlotte Hornets who is now the New Orleans Hornets and the Sacramento Kings. The first two teams went final and both teams we had picked won, so now we had to wait for the final team tow win that day. Sacramento at that time was my favorite NBA team. The 2000-20001 starting five were D. Christie ▪ V. Divac ▪ P. Stojakovic ▪ C. Webber ▪ J. Williams. So to me our money was in pretty good hands. We watched the game they had on the road vs the Seattle Supersonics I believe. I remember the game being pretty close and the Kings pulling it off with a close victory win. Now I wasn't surprised or anything that the Kings won, but we were both surprised to how easy our first bet was and that we actually won a 3 team parlay. We starting celebrating and popping bottles of Dr. Pepper to celebrate and munching down on a four cheese Frescheta pizza since we had such an easy first day at the office. After about ten minutes went by and our winning high finally came down, we logged in to our sportbook account to verify and confirm that our win was updated so we could see our funds. To our surprise our account was still at $0 dollars, so we were like, oh it must take a little bit longer for them to update the account once you win, no big deal. We waited about 20-30 more minutes and still when we checked our account, it was still at zero.
Suspecting that something has gone wrong, we looked up the sportsbook phone number and contacted them to notify them of what was going on. To our surprise even though all our teams had won their match ups, the sportsbook informed us that they did not cover the spreads associated with the game. We had no clue what not covering a spread meant. We asked for an explanation from the representative we were speaking with, to explain what that meant, but we were still a little confused. So after doing a little research on the web, and with more understanding of point spreads, Mike and I came to a dreadful conclusion that sports betting was no easy task that we thought it would be. This story marks the beginning of my exciting and sometimes stressful new hobby of online sports betting. Had no idea that it would hold my interest for this long.
